Hipster Hostel is a unique hosteling experience on Abbot Kinney Boulevard in Venice Beach. The project required a cafe, bike shop, library, and mix of shared and private rooms to create a unique hostel in a new bustling neighborhood of the greater Los Angeles area. 

 

While maintaining the view of a historic mural, the form was generated from a simple site extrusion. The mass was then sliced to create an atrium space for lighting, circulation, and visual connection. A plinth was added to create shading and extend the existing sidewalk space. The project would be predominately glass to provide views and visual connections to the surrounding neighborhood. An undulating louver system was added to mitigate light and heat gain.
